Since 2023, Léopold Van den Berghe has been working on the development of an innovative essential oil-based fungicide for the management of apple scab. Their work includes the formulation of essential oils, efficacy trials on experimental apple trees, and the investigation of the modes of action of essential oils on the pathogen.

Léopold has expertise in formulation chemistry, phytopathology and microbiology. He is also recognised for his scientific curiosity, team leadership and communication skills.
